I guess this will be the blaze of glory for Gai, nice to see a bit of history from Gai and seeing his father.

I don't think we will see Naruto or Sasuke in the next chapter, for me, he is buying Naruto sometime before he comes back to finish this fight, but this eight gates, well I guess this is it, with this flashback we will see Gai dying in the next few chapters.

I am a little speechless at the moment.

The same for me, I don't have much to say except: nice flashbacks of Gai about his father. These somehow justify the fact he is opening the 8 gates. It's his decision, his rule...

yes it is tru that those were some nice flashbacks. so I am guessing that guys father ranges with minato. kishi reallylikes to repeat things tho cause didn't you guys realise that each generation had somebody with bushy eyebrows and green tights
minato's generation - guy's father
kakashi's generation- guy
naruto's generation- rock lee

and another was that minato trained kakashi and kakashi trained naruto. minato and naruto are father and son as well as guy and his father. a lot of similarities I noticed in this chapter between characters

^Actually I think it was also Gai's last teaching to Lee. Gai learned the gates opening from his father, he witnessed how the latter opened the 8th gates to protect him and the others. I think Lee needed to see the opening of the 8th gates too.

What is also amazing is the fact that Gai's father was very positive even though people were talking shit about him and Gai proved throughout the manga that he is someone very positive and he entrusted this positiveness to Lee.

...As much as I may not have wanted it, If there was a way for Gai to go...this would have to be it. There is still some hope in me but If anything I would like to see him dish out some serious hurt on Madara next chapter (though I know it won't be enough)

Man, it's sad to see Gai go, even if it's in a blaZe of youthful glory. One thing that interested me particularly in this chapter though: it said in Gai's flashback in no uncertain terms he could not use ninjutsu as a child, but we know he is capable of some ninjutsu now (I.e. Summoning turtles). If he couldn't use ninjutsu before, but he can now, does this mean Lee could potentially learn to use ninjutsu as well?

Yes...I was actually wondering that myself. Though it could be a possibility, I wouldn't be too surprised if it was just a slip up. Or it could be that unlike Lee, whose body can't process the chakra to use Nin and Gen (if i remember correctly), Gai just wasn't very good at it at that point in time so he chose to focus on Tai alone   If you get what i'm saying?

^ yeah, I get what you are saying, and it could definitely be the case. Still, it would be cool if Lee got a power up, especially if it destroyed the limits he's known up to this point. I know Gai doesn't like to use ninjutsu around Lee in order to show Lee you can be a splendid ninja without ninjutsu, but I can't help but wonder if seeing his fallen sensei will spark something inside of Lee enabling him to use at least some ninjutsu.

The manga doesn't say that Lee isn't physically unable to use Ninjutsu or Genjutsu it only says he doesn't have the skill. So it is possible Lee could overcome that.I think it is more Fanon that lee is physically unable use things other then Taijutsu. Maybe he will learn to summon turtles like Gai.

@PhantomForteGs True that...it would be the second teammate he's losing in this war as well as his master, I can see that stirring something in him. It would be nice to see him play a part in the counter attack on Madara when Naruto and Sasuke get back, similar to when he rushed Madara and Obito with Naruto and the others shortly after Neji's death.

Atleast Gai-sensei is going out in a blaze of glory.

Liked this chapter especially 'Might Dai' his name is funny hopfully they make him playable in storm revolution

You have all raised interesting issues. I'm not so good in technical things but is summoning Jutsu a part of Ninjutsu? Or is it possible to summon without having Ninjutsu?

Anyway, even though Lee could develop Ninjutsu, that would be more a personal improvement than anything else. In the current situation only Taijutsu and Sennjutsu can work against Madara.

If Gai dies, maybe we will get some flashbacks from Kakashi and Lee as well in the next chapter. This chapter was already an insight of a part of his life. I hope to see a great fight between him and Madara and some flashbacks from those I've mentioned above. That would be a kind of tribute. So, when Gai was the "blue beast", it had the form of a tiger if I'm not wrong and now as the "red beast" he is performing something related to an elephant...

Am I the only one bothered by the fact that Kakashi doesn't seem to care that much? He's never been someone that lets his emotions out so I didn't expect something enormous which would have been out of character, but I thought he would be the one to try to stop Gai. The only two people in the group that really relate to Gai are Lee and him.

This manga is mainly about friendship after all ... (and will be about love soon   ) and I'd be a lot more emotional seeing flashbacks of Kakashi/Gai that I have seen interacting and fighting alongside for 600+ chapters than seeing a rushed flashback about Gai's father that we've never heard of and will probably never hear about again. But maybe the manga will focus on Kakashi in the next chapters.

^This manga is about bonds and friendship is one of the type of bond you can find in the story as well as parental love etc. I don't see anything wrong in the fact that there was a flashback about Gai's father. Thanks to it, we as reader could see from whom he got this positive attitude and how Gai himself trained Lee for instance in the same spirit. Besides, Gai is the one getting the spotlight now, him having a flashback regarding his personal life and the bond which helped him to be who he is justifies somehow what he is now doing.

Like Gai's father, Gai just wanted to show that opening the 8th Gate is a decision of his, "his rule" given the critical situation on the battlefield and I think Kakashi respects that although he might be very sad. Like written above, I'm expecting some flashbacks from Kakashi and Lee which will be a kind of tribute to Gai but these still can wait. But first, let's see how the fight is going to be displayed...

Am I the only one seeing the parallels between Gai and Jiraiya. Arguably Naruto would never had defeated Pain without the info Jiraiya provided about Pain. Jiraiya chose to do back up against Pain knowing he would probably die. Same with what Gai is doing now. He knows he is the only one that can hold off Madara long enough to put what ever the plan is into effect. Like Jiraiya, Gai went from being labeled a failure to being one of the strongest Shinobi in Konoha. Both are renowned for their will to never give up. What I am hoping to see with Gai sacrificing himself is a great fight atleast on the level of Jiraiya's fight with Pain. Also like Jiraiya I hope that even though Gai won't kill Madara he either creates an opening for someone else that will, or provides info about a way to go about it.

Well, to be honest, I didn't know Gai couldn't use genjutsu nor ninjutsu (like Lee), I thought that Gai uses just taijutsu 'cause he wanted, I mean, he wanted to be a taijutsu especialist for him own decision. Well, now I know he can't use, more similarities between them (Gai and Lee) n.n

I'm so expectant waiting for the next chapter! :D

Kakashi already told Gai not to do this in the previous chapter. Minato did it in this chapter instead. Kakashi is not going to repeat himself, especially as it clearly wasn't going to stop Gai who has made his choice.

We always get informational flashbacks--one of the many reasons why I disagree with those who keep thinking that this manga is going to end soon. I honestly expect that we will get more info on many that we're lacking beyond the basics. I was pleasantly surprised that we got the name of Gai's father. I still wish we got both parents--though it's still possible as I don't think the flashback is completely done. I have a feeling we'll split between what Dai did against the 7 Swordsmen and what Gai is going to "do" to Madara.

I'm hoping we get some more mothers as we've got plenty of fathers in this series.

I can see a Gai/Jiraiya parallel in terms of the potential effect, particularly as you've laid it out, meow69. Of course, I would like the Gai stuff to play out in full.
